Brochure size, folding, and paper options

In the brochures printing world, the size of the brochure is generally taken to be its size when folded. When opened, the brochure's total area becomes larger. While brochure designs often follow standardized formats, we're also experienced with printing custom sizes and can tailor each print job to your specifications.

DL brochures (99 x 210mm)

A DL brochure is one-third the size of an A4 piece of paper. DL size is often considered the "standard" brochure size. It usually takes the form of a "tri-fold" or "c-fold" brochure: an A4-sized stock is folded twice to create three panels and six double-sided pages.

A4 brochures (210 x 297 mm)

A4 brochures are the largest of the standard sizes, able to convey more detailed information and bigger images or artwork. A large A3-sized event promotion poster, for instance, can be folded down to A4 size to save you money on distribution costs.

A6 brochures (105 x 148mm)

An A6 brochure is quarter the size of an A4 paper. One way to create this compact brochure size is through the "French fold", where an A4-sized paper is folded in half and then folded in half again, creating four panels and eight double-sided pages.

Other folding options

Print brochures can have multiple folding styles, such as roll fold and double gate fold.

A "z-fold" is another type of tri-fold brochure, but unlike the more common c-fold style, the paper is folded in the shape of a Z. An "accordion fold" is similar, but has more than three panels. In a "map fold", the brochure opens up like unfolding a map.

A5 is exactly half the size of an A4 paper. A5 brochures typically have a "bi-fold" format, made from A4 stock that's folded in half. Another option is the "gate fold", where the paper is folded in from each side toward the centre to resemble a gate opening.

Paper stocks

Common options include gloss, matte, and uncoated. Glossy paper has a shiny finish, giving a vibrant and polished look. Matte offers a non-reflective surface, conveying a subdued and sophisticated feel. Uncoated paper has a natural, textured finish.
